Psychometric Testing in Executive Career Coaching
I have concerns about how psychometric tests are sometimes used in executive career coaching. In the worst cases such tests can be used to ‘pigeon-hole’ people and limit their choices. Instead of helping you to 'open up' to new directions, you can end up feeling 'pressured' to continue on your well-worn track.
Your psychometric profile is NOT 'you'. Such profiles can only help you learn a little about some of your ‘preferences’ at work.
Psychometric tests can help you learn about the skills and talents you have used to date and the type of mindset and outlook you have had at work up to now.
Psychometric tests are generally less good at helping you identify hidden talents and potentials which you have not had a chance to employ in your work previously.
I may ask you to undertake some psychometric tests – but the outputs will be considered alongside a whole raft of other ‘data’ that we will gather during your executive career coaching sessions.
